April 2013 Update

Hey guys, the only current server we are running at this time is our Ventrilo one. Not enough demand or players for the Minecraft one, or DayZ one. Lately, our players have been doing a lot of League of Legends, Dota, EVE Online, World of Tanks, and War Thunder.

If you’ve been absent for a while and want to rekindle the bromance, feel free to contact me (info on the right) or pop into vent. 

Alternatively, if you have Dolby Axon (what some of us have been using for voice chat while gaming), you can add me (treesquid) and jump in our chat to say hey.

Sorry I haven’t been as up to date on the happenings as I should have.

No more Minecraft! Hellooo DayZ server!

So I’ve done away with the minecraft server (less than 5 players per month) and signed up for a DayZ server! I’ll post more info when I get it sometime this week. Cheers!

Branching out!

So, recently we’ve had a lot of interest in the popular Arma 2 mod, Day Z. I went ahead and picked up a ventrilo server (15 slots for now), and I think I’ll turn this tumblr into a general blog for games everyone apart of our small community is playing, which right now seems to be Day Z.

If you have any pics, videos, or stories you’d like other members to see, just submit them and I’ll publish them. I’ll keep updates as per usual here as well.

I created a Steam Group too, so join that!

Important! Future of Squid Server!

Hey guys, 

So I’ve been checking in on the server, and noticed it’s been rarely used the past while. With the release of Diablo 3, a lot of players have migrated off minecraft to that, while others have outright dissappeared. I’ve talked to a friend, who has been up until now paying for half the price of the server (a hefty 28 dollars a month), and he’s backing out do to himself rarely playing it, and very few others playing regularily.

So my question to you guys, the players, is this. Should I cut the server down to a more self-sustaining price, like 20-30 a month instead of 58? Right now I’m paying for all of it, and I can’t afford that much a month as a student. Does anyone else feel like donating a little each month? Does someone want to take over the server (I’ve secured a very low price with our host, you’d be hardpressed to find a better and more reliable host with this kind of price), or is there something else you guys would suggest?

If everyone does a little word of mouth recruiting, and breathes some life into the server, we could keep the server going on the higher server tier, if not I’ll have to downgrade.

I dont mind spending time to make sure the plugins are working, and the server is up and running on the latest bukkit, but if there’s nobody playing it, it’s a lot of money out of my pocket (and the donators, of which there seems to be less and less)

Hello, so as the server has been relatively quiet lately, I’ve been looking at some new plugins, as well as thinking of ways to spice things up, and here’s what I’ve come up with:

GriefPrevention has a new option that includes Sieges. It’s now possible (if enabled on the server) for people to “siege” players inside their own claims.. For a complete run through, please go HERE and read/watch the video on it.

I was thinking of promoting a theme something like Empire vs Outsiders vs Others, basically some people would opt to be a part of the new forming Empire, we’d pick a leader(s), and start a central hub. People would open their own player run shops, as well as pool resources if possible to further expand the territory. It might be possible to enlist some guards to try to keep the peace, or knights perhaps to travel to outher towns/cities allied with the empire. The Citizins belonging to the empire would enjoy the perks of free travel in the city, maybe protection, or sharing of goods, but they would also have to pay a fee (maybe precious metals, or materials) to the empire. 

Outsiders would not have to worry about the fee, but maybe they can be killed on sight in the city, or harassed to join? All these things can be discussed while building the empire, or while others build their own empires.

There’s also a new population based spawn point plugin, read about that HERE. It basically groups new players into resource rich areas when they log in, allowing them to meet new people that joined recently and start communities together. It also has the added feature of placing small beacons around the landscape that allows people to travel to other hubs/cities when they are next to the beacons themselves. You are able to invite outsiders into your “zone”, and have them teleport to it from these beacons.

Changes, Bans, and Submissions!

Hello!

So I took a couple of minutes today to do some server upkeep, tinkering with plugins, checking on some players, and general adminnish work, and banned a couple of players.

Bans!

Slumtowel, and Mitchmorr12 have been added to the banlist for Hacking, and X-raying, respectively. Of the 6 very basic rules we have, they had to go and break one.

As a reminder, Flying is not allowed unless you are an admin, or I give you permission. No one else really has permission either.

Changes!


So after my last exam, in about a week and a bit here, I’ve got some pretty big changes I’d like to talk to the community as a whole about, so I’ll either send out a big email, or post about it here, and if you have an opinion, tweet me, email, or come in and talk in game, whatever works best, we’ll hit that soon. More to come!

Submissions!


As the servers been a touch quiet lately, not many people have been on to see the new works a few of our players have done. If you have something cool you built on the server, and you want it showcased, just click the Submit button at the top of our tumblr website, and I’ll more than likely post it up for everyone to see. 

That’s about all I had to say right now, I’ll post more after exams are done and we’re talking about some potential changes. Maybe after my exam tomorrow, or during this week for a break I’ll organize a Survival Island or some sort of PVP event if there’s interest.

1.2.5 Update

I went ahead and updated to 1.2.5!

Server Update

So the server was down today (I have no idea why) but I removed a plugin and it’s up and working again.

I myself am nearing finals, so will not be around as much as I’d like to, and even less than the past week or two, but after that I’ll be back in full swing. I have some ideas for the server (hopefully fun ones) and some plans, so I’ll start talking to the players when I’m done finals and we can hash those things out. Until then, my apologies for not popping in as much as I should, i do miss you guys and the server.

I have been keeping everything up to date though, and will continue to do so, even if I can’t log on :3

Everything seems smooth on 1.2.4, waiting for a recommended build now so I can also update plugins.
